Jambmaths question: 

$W\propto {{L}^{2}}$and W = 6 and L = 4, if L = $\sqrt{17}$, find W

Option A: 

$6\tfrac{1}{8}$

Option B: 

$6\tfrac{3}{8}$

$6\tfrac{5}{8}$

Option D:

Jamb Maths Solution: 

$\begin{align}  & W\propto {{L}^{2}} \\ & W=K{{L}^{2}} \\ & \text{when }W=6,\text{ }L=4 \\ & 6={{4}^{2}}K \\ & K=\frac{6}{16}=\frac{3}{8} \\ & \text{When }L=\sqrt{17} \\ & \therefore W=\frac{3}{8}\times {{\left( \sqrt{17} \right)}^{2}}=\frac{3}{8}\times 17=\frac{51}{8} \\ & W=6\tfrac{3}{8} \\\end{align}$
